Formation of the Blob
After weeks of learning about robotic integration in the design process, we as teams of three were tasked with choosing a method of integration and a hook. We chose the novelty of inflatable architecture, but wanted to revamp the take Ant Farm had, by combining it with technological implementation of integrated life systems meant to create a more self-reliant biodome rather than a simple bubble. The form of the “metablob” was used to show slight amorphous variation, with each space simulated in Maya, inflated, squished, pinched, and made rigid for habitation. In addition to solar paneling, implemented in a razzle-dazzle reaction-diffusion pattern, drones would have the dual purpose of injecting algae and spraying hardening resin on the inflatable structure to give it further rigidity. The build was theoretical, with furniture mimicking the inflatable qualities of the building.
