Giving reverence to history while pushing forward towards academic innovation.

In teams of two, we as a “firm” were hypothetically hired by Texas A&M University to transform Lot 64, located at the intersection of Wellborn Road and Raymond Stotzer Parkway, into a new “West Campus Quad”. We were tasked with creating a building that took the concepts presented by the Innovative Learning Classroom Building and ensured a worthwhile experience for the entire Aggie Network, from prospective students and alumni, to maintenance members and everyone in between.

The material meant to be showcased in this construction is Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT), as an architectural material gaining further prominence in the world of construction and design. Additionally, there was a desire to incorporate the adjacent land, the Eli L. Whiteley Medal of Honor Park, into the greater scope of the project.

The building had a programmatic requirement of 2 auditoriums, 15 Active Learning Classrooms, a Cafe, a Makerspace and Office Spaces and we operated on a 15 foot by 15 foot grid as a regulating system. Outside of that we wanted to capture a sense of reverence for the Medal of Honor recipients and to dedicate our building to sustainable practices on a structural and systemic level.
